Everything worth knowing starts with a story...

"Once upon a time..."

"A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..."

"When he was nearly 13, my brother Jem had his arm badly broken at the elbow..."

Recognize that? It's the first line from Harper Lee's classic, To Kill A Mockingbird.

That's right! The inspiration for our logo comes from this man: Atticus Finch.

Notice the glasses in our logo?

Those remind us to look at other people the way that Atticus did: with respect, with wholehearted empathy, and without judgment. This is a huge part of the active listening involved in coaching and consulting...

See that little bird?

He reminds us that every person is valuable, resourceful, and unique. He also symbolizes the bird's eye view - different, objective, non-judgmental - that we as coaches and consultants bring to our interactions with our clients.

We haven't reached the superhero level of empathy, kindness, listening, and leadership that define Atticus Finch, but we do love having him as our role model and mascot!

Perhaps more than anything,

Atticus Finch embodies positive leadership.

As coaches, speakers, and positive leadership consultants, our business is all about you! Our goal as we work with you is to add value to you, and to continually become people of value along the way.

We define positive leadership as the potent combination of positive psychology and leadership. It's this unique, evidence-based approach that forms the basis for thriving in our lives and in our business. And we can't think of a better example of living out positive leadership than Atticus Finch.

Perhaps what we love most about Atticus Finch is that we feel like better people after spending time in his company. And so, we will leave you with some of our favorite gems from To Kill A Mockingbird.

"If you can learn a simple trick, you'll get along a lot better with all kinds of folks. You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view […] until you climb into his skin and walk around in it." - Atticus Finch

"They're certainly entitled to think that, and they're entitled to full respect for their opinions... but before I can live with other folks I've got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn't abide by majority rule is a person's conscience." - Atticus Finch

"It was times like these when I thought my father, who hated guns and had never been to any wars, was the bravest man who ever lived." - Scout Finch
